Vocabulary:
- Solution - A homogeneous mixture that is mixed molecule by molecule
- Solvent - the dissolving medium, present in the greatest amount. (solid, liquid, or gas)
- Solute - the dissolved particles, the lesser amount. (solid, liquid, or gas)
- Aqueous Solution - a solution with water as the solvent
- Polar - a separation of electric charge leading to a molecule
- Non-polar - Molecule which has no separation of charge, so no positive or negative poles are formed
- Electrolytes - Compounds that conduct an electric current in aqueous solution, or in the molten state
- Solvation - the solution process
- Miscible - when two liquids dissolve in each other
- Solubility - the property of a solid, liquid, or gaseous chemical substance called solute to dissolve in a solid, liquid, or gaseous solvent to form a homogeneous solution of the solute in the solvent
- Molarity - the numbers of moles of solute per liters of solution (Mol/L)
- Concentration - the amount of solute dissolved in a solution
- Dilute Solution - contains a low concentration of solute
- Concentrated Solution - contains a high concentration of solute
- Dilution Formula - M1 x V1 = M2 x V2
- Saturated - the maximum amount of solute dissolved
- Unsaturated - can still dissolve more salute
- Supersaturated - solution holding more solute than it theoretically should
